Dog Avoids Eye Contact With Owner After Making Muddy Mess: 'Innocent'

Taking your dog to the park always seems like a good idea at first, but one owner recently discovered the major drawback that follows any muddy stroll: the car ride home.

When Cheryl Cawston decided to take her 4-year-old gundog Albie out for a walk in the park, she thought it would be great to tire him out and let him run around in the fresh air. What harm could come of that? Well, the dog owner forgot to take a towel for the dog, and that proved to be a most essential item.

Cawston explained to Newsweek that Albie was only inside the car for 10 minutes on the way back to their home in Norfolk in the United Kingdom, but that was more than enough time to wreak utter havoc. Before long, the black leather interior of the car was covered in mud, which took Cawston "three hours to clean" after.

Safe to say, that's the last time she'll ever forget to wipe Albie down before he jumps into the car.

Following the incident, Cawston captured a video of the filthy pup refusing to look her in the eye after wiping dirt on every single seat in the car and giving the interior a whole new design.

Although Cawston was less than impressed, social media users couldn't help but laugh, and since the clip was posted on TikTok (@forevertrainingalbie), it has already been viewed over 756,500 times and gained more than 19,500 likes.

Cawston told Newsweek: "We had just been out for a walk, and he jumped straight into the car and then refused to get out. But I've been so happy with how many views the video has gained already online.

"I just want to show the world how much love you can give a dog, even if they're muddy, and I hope people see how important it is to rescue a dog."

There's no doubt that dogs love to roll around in just about anything—whether it's grass or a muddy puddle, they're really not picky. But there's method to their madness, as PetMD explains that they may do this as a way of covering up their own scent, or trying to pick up another dog's scent that was left there previously.

Alternatively, there may be less science involved because sometimes it could just be as simple as scratching an itch and making sure to get the right spot. PetMD suggests that owners shouldn't stop their dog from doing this if they're happy in the grass, but if they're rolling around in more unsanitary conditions then it should be stopped.

Fortunately for Cawston, her car is looking brand new again, but it's going to be a long time before Albie is allowed back inside. But nonetheless, with the caption that reads: "Get a dog they said, it will be fun they said," the clip has delighted many TikTok users.

Since going viral in March, the post has gained more than 800 comments already. One comment reads: "Are you sure it was the dog ...he looks innocent to me."

Another person wrote: "At what point exactly did you think opening the car door was a good idea."

While another TikToker joked: "The dog doesn't look bothered one bit."
