Watch as Dog Uses His Toy to Trap Owner in the Bathroom: 'He Knew'

Most dog owners will know how frustrating it is when their pup leaves toys all over the house, and while the problem is normally just the mess created, one woman also discovered that dog toys can unintentionally become a perfect door wedge.

Kate Fuad just wanted a moment of privacy when she went to the bathroom, but her cheeky golden retriever and German shepherd mix, named Yogi, was quick to follow her. What Fuad hadn't anticipated was that Yogi also brought his toy with him and he dropped it on the ground—right in the way of the door.

As the bathroom door opens outwards, Yogi's toy wedged against the door, leaving his beloved owner trapped inside. Fuad, from Hertfordshire, in the U.K., told Newsweek that Yogi was "happily watching" her struggle to open the door, as she joked that "he knew exactly what he'd done."

Thankfully, Fuad had her cell phone with her in the bathroom so she could call for help from her husband upstairs. However, before doing that, she couldn't resist filming the unfortunate situation Yogi had created, and she shared it on TikTok (@yogi.the.golden.shepherd), much to the delight of her followers. Layered over the footage, the caption reads: "POV: he drops and wedges his toy outside the bathroom door, and now you're trapped."

"Yogi will always sit outside the toilet and wait for me, I think it's a protective pack mentality," Fuad said. "He also loves bringing me his toys (it must be the retriever in him), and on this occasion he managed, or I should say decided, to wedge his rubber squeaky toy against the door and our wooden floor.

"He usually knows the command and responds to 'get your toy,' so I have a feeling he let his cheeky side take over."

There are many reasons why dogs may follow their owners just about everywhere they go, as the American Kennel Club (AKC) explains that it can often come down to their pack mentality of always sticking together. Additionally, clingy behavior could be a sign that the dog has imprinted on their owner and sees them as their leader, so they feel obliged to go everywhere they go.

But not all dogs are that instinctive, and the AKC also suggests that they might simply tag along with their owners because they know they receive attention or treats when they do. So, before feeling too flattered, consider which reason it might be first.

Fuad wasn't alone in the house. She explained that her husband was upstairs gaming with his headset on, so he couldn't hear her yelling from the bathroom. Once she'd captured the hilarious video of Yogi wedging the door closed, she phoned him and he quickly came down to rescue her.

After posting the video on social media, Fuad has been delighted by the positive response it's received, telling Newsweek her videos of Yogi always get "the best reaction."

Yogi's antics may not have pleased his owner at the time, but social media users have certainly loved his cheekiness. One comment on the viral TikTok post reads: "Clearly he was just showing you the dangers of you going to the bathroom without him."

Another person wrote: "The amount of times this happens to me because Poggy insists on waiting for me outside the toilet."

While another TikToker simply commented: "Oops."
