Tenant Notices Landlord Installs Cameras, in Disbelief After Looking Closer

We all like to think our homes are secure, but one California resident has left the internet in stitches after revealing the innovative new security cameras he discovered outside his building.

While walking back towards his Los Angeles home, Paul Ferrante noticed that the usual security cameras had been swapped out for a novel new kind. Gone were the high-tech versions, only to be replaced with Furbo pet cameras instead, which are usually only intended for keeping a watchful eye on mischievous dogs, not suspected burglars.

Thankful, Ferrante was very amused by the new security arrangement, telling Newsweek that he couldn't stop laughing at the sight of them, but he doesn't believe they were switched on because "no treats were thrown" at him (sadly).

Ferrante shared the hilarious footage in a TikTok post, joking that this must be the reason why his rent has got so expensive nowadays—at least he knows what he's paying for. The clip has amused so many people, already generating over 749,300 views and more than 13,500 likes at the time of writing.

"The cameras definitely weren't there before last week because I remember seeing real security cameras before that," Ferrante said. "My building is gated, so I feel protected. But now I just feel bad for any potential burglars now that the Furbo is gone. If you make the effort to scale that gate you deserve a treat."

Evidently, it isn't just Ferrante's building management who have turned to Furbo for their security, as more and more people are installing the pet cams around their homes. In 2019, Furbo's market size in the U.S. was $28.1 million and continued to rise to $73.2 million in 2023, according to Statista.

Statista estimates that it will only continue to increase too, with a predicted $116.9 million worth in 2025.

Layered over the hilarious footage, Ferrante wrote: "When you wonder why the rent at your building is so expensive, then see the high-tech dog treating security cams they just installed." He even joked that they must be "positively reinforcing" breaking and entering in his area now too.

After the video went viral on TikTok, many social media users lauded the novel new security cameras, however there were plenty of questions about who (or what) they would actually fend off.

Ferrante told Newsweek: "Everyone is finding it as funny as I did. The main responses are people asking if it throws treats at the burglars, or if it's just to prevent cat burglars."

The video has quickly gained a number of comments on TikTok, but one in particular caught the poster's attention. Security company ADT, whose logo can be seen in the background, wrote: "We have questions."

Another person responded: "That's so your landlord can drop you a quick treat for paying your rent on time."

While another comment reads: "If you're a good tenant does it give you a treat?"
